Technical information
As a Rapid Application Development
(RAD) tool for the programming of Visual Plants we used 4th Dimension from www.4D.com (version 2003).
This RAD tool has many advantages for our purposes:

It is possible to program for both, Windows and Macintosh operating systems without any additional work.

It works really fast, especially proceeding queries in full text fields.

The GUI (Graphical User Interface) is easy to use.
|

The adaptation of the program as a web-based database is easily possible using the integrated webserver.
|
It can be easily implemented as a
client/server system.
And, soon, the interface to the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (www.gbif.org)
will be
available.
